Job description
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a type of hematological malignancies that is driven by many different transcription factors. Although the transcription factors are the key oncogenic drivers in AML, these proteins are difficult to be pharmacologically targeted. However, transcription factors always require many co-activators to control oncogenic transcriptional program. These co-activators are often druggable. Among these transcriptional co-activators, human BRG1/BRM associated factor (BAF) complexes play a critical role in many types of cancer including AML, and may also be the important therapeutic targets.
We are looking for a highly motivated research technician who is familiar with molecular research of acute myeloid leukemia, especially the enhancer regulation by chromatin factors. We will combine state-of-the-art gene editing, (epi)genomics, and computational methods to study the molecular functions of the BAF complexes in AML.
Furthermore, we will test our anti-BAF therapies in 2D and 3D (primary) culture models. The ultimate goal of our research is to develop novel anti-AML therapeutics for AML treatment.
Work environment
You will be part of a newly formed research group in the department of hematology at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam. Currently, the department has several research groups covering different topics of hematology, including basic and (pre-)clinical research in leukemia, myeloma, thrombosis and other blood related diseases. The new research team will focus on molecular aspect of human AML, and closely collaborate with other teams in the department to understand basic and translational questions of this disease.
Qualifications and skills
- You have a BSc/MSc in either (molecular) biology, genetics, or (bio)chemistry.
- You must have experience in gene regulation research of acute myeloid leukemia.
- Solid experience with molecular biology techniques, mammalian cell culture, and FACS analysis is a requirement.
- You are familar with epigenetic techniques such as ChIP-seq and ATAC-seq.
- You are familiar with gene editing techniques such as CRISPR-CAS9.
- You are team-oriented, highly motivated, self-driven, and proficient in written and spoken English.
Before you apply please check our conditions for employment.
