Job description

Mycetoma is a neglected tropical infectious disease defined by large tumor-like lesions on the foot. The micro-organisms form grains within these lesions, protecting them from antimicrobial agents. This makes the disease hard to treat, often resulting in unsatisfying outcomes and amputations in 25% of patients. Erasmus MC is collaborating in a universal consortium to develop desperately needed new drugs. You will contribute by isolating RNA from invertebrate infection models and performing transcriptomic analyses to identify innovative drug targets.

  • Isolate RNA from invertebrate infection models.
  • Perform transcriptomic analyses with international partners.
  • Create and validate knock-outs in fungal and bacterial mycetoma pathogens.
