Job description

As a PhD Candidate / Medical Researcher you will strengthen our research team and contribute to personalized prevention. You will develop predictive models that identify which lifestyle and preventive interventions deliver the greatest health benefits. For this purpose, you will work with unique datasets such as the Rotterdam Study (ERGO) and link them with large population studies in the Netherlands and abroad.

Your main tasks:

  • Designing and conducting statistical analyses and predictive models.
  • Developing scenarios to evaluate preventive interventions.
  • Publishing research findings and presenting at (inter)national conferences.
  • Translating scientific outcomes into practical prevention strategies for primary care.
  • Coordinating subprojects in collaboration with epidemiologists, general practitioners and data scientists.
  • An integral part of this PhD track is formal training in (clinical) epidemiology at NIHES. This position offers an excellent foundation for a medical specialty training or an academic career.

Work environment

You will join the Department of Epidemiology at Erasmus MC, an internationally recognized center for population research and prevention. Within this project you will collaborate closely with the Department of General Practice and with national and international partners.

You will be part of a young, enthusiastic and multidisciplinary team of physicians, sociologists, epidemiologists and statisticians. Together we translate insights from large population studies into preventive solutions that make a real impact on public health.

Qualifications and skills

You are an analytical and motivated researcher who thrives on teamwork and is eager to contribute to societal impact. You work with great precision and are able to communicate complex information clearly. In addition, you:

  • Hold a degree in Medicine or Biomedical Sciences (a BIG registration is an advantage for medical graduates).
  • Have a strong interest in data analysis and scientific research.
  • Possess excellent communication skills in both English and preferably Dutch as well.
  • Have experience with statistical software (R, Python or Stata is considered a plus).

Terms of employment

  • You will receive a temporary position for 48 months.
  • The gross monthly salary is € 3.824,- (scale 10, grade 2) based on a full working week of 36 hours
  • Excellent fringe benefits, such as a 13th month that is already paid out in November and a individual travel expense package. 
  • An International Office which aids you in preparing for you arrival and stay. 
  • Pension insurance with ABP. We take care of approximately 2/3 of the monthly contribution. 
  • Special benefits, such as a incompany physiotherapist and bicycle repairer. And there is also a gym where you can work on your fitness after work.
