Job description

We need more in-depth information about the benefits and costs associated with care utilization and lifestyle choices to make better healthcare decisions. Different types of large-scale observational datasets, such as cohort studies, clinical registries, routine healthcare, and/or claims data, typically contain information on various types of descriptive data, benefits, and costs. Analyzing these data through a multidisciplinary approach holds the promise of delivering new insights that can improve health-related decisions at the individual, organizational, and system levels.

You join the multidisciplinary team working on the project A Lifecourse and Individual based View on Lifestyle to Enhance health (ALIVE). Our researchers within ALIVE have established important linkages between Erasmus MC cohort data such as the Rotterdam Study and Generation R and administrative registry data from Statistics Netherlands.

Your role is to explore and expand these linkages, optimize their use and investigate what they may teach us about data quality, external validity, the relationship between environment, behaviour and health outcomes, and the methodological adaptations needed to work with these linked datasets.

In this role you:

  • Write peer-reviewed publications to showcase the potential of combining datasets to other researchers at Erasmus MC and beyond.
  • Acquire follow-up funding to (a) maintain and expand the linkages, and (b) secure sufficient funding for ALIVE both in the short and long term.
  • Lead research exploring the potential of combining cohort and registry data
  • Translate Convergence insights into concrete research applications using the available datasets
  • Play an active role in project management within the ALIVE Flagship

Work environment

You join the multidisciplinary team working on the project ALIVE, one of the Convergence Flagship projects jointly initiated and funded by Erasmus MC, Erasmus University Rotterdam and Delft University of Technology. ALIVE is embedded in Convergence Health and Technology

We’re a diverse, interdisciplinary team of fifteen core members from junior researchers to senior experts and research leaders. Collaboration is at the heart of what we do. We regularly come together for team events, and our junior and senior researchers often join forces at one of our partner universities to make collaboration smooth and effective.

We’re ambitious, driven, and passionate about our mission. Joining our flagship means you’ll have the chance to work with a wide range of data sources and play a real role in advancing brain health. It’s a unique opportunity to grow, learn, and make an impact alongside colleagues who are just as motivated as you are.

Qualifications and skills

  • PhD in healthcare, epidemiology, data science, econometrics, or a related field
  • Experience with analysing large-scale observational data using R, Python, or another programming language
  • Strong research leadership skills with the ability to generate impactful knowledge
  • Fluent in English (both written and spoken)
  • Able to work independently as well as in multidisciplinary teams

Preferred qualifications:

  • Ability to read Dutch or willingness to learn
  • Knowledge of medical information or a medical background

Before you apply please check our conditions for employment.
