Job description
Inflammation of extended criteria donor livers after transplant results in complications for the recipient. Therefore we want to reduce inflammation of these livers. One of the windows where we can manipulate donor livers is during organ perfusion. Organ perfusion is currently performed with oxygenated perfusate. We want to add human hematopoietic stem cells (HSC; CD34+ derived from the recipient) to the machine perfusion to reduce liver inflammation.
The project you will be working on is at the intersection between Hematology and immunology. This project entails the detailed characterization of HSCs from healthy donors and the functionality of the cells HSCs differentiate into. You will culture HSCs and functionally characterize these longitudinally using RNAsequencing, flowcytometry, mass spectrometry, ELISA. You will determine their anti-inflammatory properties by performing co-culture experiments. Next, you will determine wheter HSC obtained from patient with end-stage liver failure have the same characteristics. The endgoal of this project is to optimize the HSC culture to improve liver regeneration and reduce inflammation

Qualifications and skills
The preferred candidate holds a master degree (MSc) in the life sciences. Experience in cellculture and molecular biology is an advantage and experience in large dataset analysis is preferred. Applicants with a background in immunology are also encouraged to apply.
