Job description

As Product Owner, you will be responsible for the success of our new high-performance computing cluster, including data management and server infrastructure that supports researchers and bioinformaticians in analyzing and interpreting complex biological data. You are the driving force behind determining the product strategy together with the researchers and bioinformaticians and are translating this into concrete solutions for scientific and technical needs. 

You are the product owner for a team of two IT specialists and set clear priorities to realize projects effectively and on time, building infrastructure that makes complex analyses faster and more efficient. Your team optimizes virtual computing power (GPUs, CPUs) and storage and integrates cloud services to ensure scalability and reliability. 

You will work closely with users of various systems, suppliers, and colleagues who realize new functionalities and connections to other systems. In addition, you consult with (academic) partners to exchange knowledge and experience. You will also make an important contribution to the digital transformation of Erasmus MC.  

Tasks you are responsible for include: 

  • Roadmap and vision: you will develop a strategic vision and translate it into a roadmap, aligned with the IT strategy plan, Erasmus MC's digital transformation and the needs of the research domain. 

  • Stakeholder management: you maintain strong relationships with various stakeholders and translate their needs into valuable solutions. 

  • Backlog management: writing clear user stories, prioritizing work in Azure DevOps and supervising refinement sessions are among your core tasks. 

  • Release planning: Together with the team, you ensure on-time deliveries, organize product demos and put together releases. 

  • Advising on and organizing knowledge sessions. 

  • Market research: you research new products, maintain contacts with suppliers and focus on innovative solutions.

Our goal is to strengthen the scientific position of Erasmus MC with an advanced IT infrastructure. Through various projects, we develop products and services that support researchers in collecting, processing and storing data efficiently and securely in a user-friendly manner. This way, we build a solid foundation for future scientific success.  

You will be part of a new multidisciplinary team. This team brings together experts from hardware, software development, data analytics and life sciences to create computing capacity to answer complex biological problems. As a pioneer within this team, you have the opportunity to help build the vision and organization of this team. The Product Owner falls organizationally under the Research & Education Directorate. 

Qualifications and skills

As a Product Owner, you make an immediate impact with your creativity and connecting approach. You will work in an academic environment with the scrum team and translate researchers needs into concrete developments within the Bioinformatics Suite. You enjoy taking on and shaping new initiatives. Thanks to your insight, strategic thinking and enthusiasm, you contribute to progressive solutions that make a difference.  

 

You also have: 

  • At least 2 years of experience as a Product Owner (with PSPO I certification) in a complex work environment. 

  • Knowledge of I&T infrastructure, including storage, servers and virtual machines and understanding of high-performance computing and clustering techniques such as SLURM. 

  • Familiarity with ITIL processes such as incident management, change management, and SLAs. 

  • Experience in scientific research or working in an academic environment. A background in data science is a plus. 

  • Perseverance, strong organizational skills, an accurate way of working and excellent communication skills in both Dutch and English.

Terms of employment

  • A one-year contract with the prospect of permanent employment. 

  • A gross monthly salary between € 4,678 and € 6,402 (scale 11) for a full working week of 36 hours. 

  • Career opportunities and training. 

  • Partly working from home and working 4x 9 hours is possible. Also working part-time (up to 60%) is possible. 

  • A 13th month that we already pay out in November and a personal travel budget. 

  • Pension insurance with the ABP. We pay 70% of your pension contribution, which means that your net salary is higher than you might think. 

  • Sports facilities at Erasmus MC.  And do you have a flat tire? Our bicycle mechanic will be happy to repair it.
