Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic (bio)pharmaceutical researcher that has affinity with chemistry. Extensive working experience is not required for this function. We do expect that you have gained experience in biochemistry and in vitro experiments during study.

Within this project, you will be responsible for chemically constructing a potential new drug to treat cancer. Additionally, you will conduct functional experiments with this new drug.

This concerns a 2-year appointment, in which you will become part of a varied team with a Medical Oncologist and a Radiopharmaceutical Scientist. Your duties are:

  •  Perform the synthesis and characterization of new drugs
  • Set up, perform and analyze the results of in vitro assays
  • Contribute to lab duties, organization, protocols, report and equipment maintenance

Work environment

This project is a collaboration between the department of Medical Oncology and the department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. This gives you the opportunity to work at different laboratories.

The first part of this project will be performed at the RadioPharmaceutical Chemistry group. Subsequent functional experiments will be conducted at the lab of Translational Cancer Genomics. All experiments will be supervised by experienced scientists.

Both research groups are internationally renowned and offer a pleasant working environment. The variety of labs involved offers you the opportunity to broadly orientate on your future career.

For this function we are looking for the following:

  • You have a MSc degree in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences or Biochemistry;
  • You have experience with in vitro assays (e.g. binding affinity, cytotoxicity) and cell culture operations;
  • You are a high-energy multi-tasker with exquisite attention to detail;
  • You can work independently and in collaboration with others;

You have excellent skills in spoken and written English.

Terms of employment

  • You will receive a temporary position for 2 years.
  • The gross monthly salary amounts a minimum of € 3.724,- and a maximum of € 5.867,- (scale 10).
  • You can work either full-time or part-time. Together, we will discuss how you can contribute within the department. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is important to us.
  • Excellent fringe benefits, such as a 13th month that is already paid out in November and a individual travel expense package.

  • Pension insurance with ABP. We take care of approximately 2/3 of the monthly contribution.
