Job description
We are seeking a motivated and dedicated Research Technician to join our neuroscience research team. The successful candidate will support experimental investigations into the neural mechanisms of movement control. You will play a vital role in ensuring that laboratory operations run smoothly, supporting scientists in their experimental work, and helping advance discoveries that may impact future medical treatments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support to scientists to facilitate high-quality, efficient experimental workflows.
- Supervise and train interns in experimental and laboratory skills, fostering their development and contributing to the team’s educational mission.
- Carry out routine administrative duties to ensure effective functioning of the research unit.
- Contribute to a collaborative, supportive, and productive laboratory environment.
- Perform experimental work and learn methodologies relevant to the research project.
Work environment
The Department of Neuroscience of Erasmus Medical University Center, Rotterdam, is embedded in the dynamic, internationally competitive research community. We are a group of 21 research groups that conduct neuroscience research at different scales using a variety of methodologies. The Narain lab investigates how movement in controlled by the brain and how complex movements are timed. Our long term goal is to use neural mechanisms to develop brain-computer interfaces that can be translated to clinical applications. The advancement of our neuroscientific and biomedical goals would not be possible without our vibrant and international team of scientists across all career stages.
Qualifications and skills
- A bachelors degree or higher in biomedical science or a similar discipline.
- Strong technical and organizational skills with attention to detail in experimental procedures.
- Prior experience and/or certification on work with laboratory animals for biomedical studies is desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative and team-oriented mindset.
- Experience supervising or mentoring students/interns is desirable.
- Enthusiasm for scientific discovery with the potential for real-world medical impact.

Terms of employment
- A year contract, 12 months.
- 36 hour a week.
- A bruto monthly salary in scale 7M-1, € 3.155,- fulltime, work week of 36 hour.
- A 13th month salary paid out in November and a travel allowance.
- A pension insurance policy with the ABP. We pay 70% of your pension premium, meaning your net salary turns out higher than you might think.
- Sports facilities at Erasmus MC. And do you have a flat tire? Our bicycle mechanic will be happy to fix it.
