Job description
The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Erasmus MC is looking for an ambitious researcher at postdoctoral or assistant professor level. You will promote technological and digital innovation in rehabilitation care. The goal is to contribute to sustainable and future-proof rehabilitation care.
You will develop an independent and distinctive research program that aligns with the department’s mission and addresses current challenges in rehabilitation care. Your program may fall within one of our three strategic research lines or span multiple lines. In doing so, you will strengthen the connection between data-driven care, technological innovation, and implementation in daily rehabilitation practice.
The exact content of the research program has deliberately been kept broad. We are looking for a researcher with a clear scientific vision of how technological and digital innovation can advance rehabilitation care. There is ample opportunity to formulate new research questions, establish collaborations, and help shape the future direction of this research program.
Through this research, you will contribute to addressing important challenges in rehabilitation care, including the growing demand for care, workforce shortages, and the need for more personalized and scalable care. Scientific innovation and societal impact go hand in hand, with the ultimate goal of improving care for people undergoing rehabilitation.
In addition, you will:
- Initiate, conduct, and publish high-quality scientific research.
- Collaborate with rehabilitation physicians, allied health professionals, patients, technology developers, and researchers from various disciplines.
- Translate scientific and technological developments into innovations that can be evaluated and implemented in rehabilitation practice.
- Secure national and international research funding and supervise PhD candidates, junior researchers, and students.
- Contribute to education and knowledge exchange within and beyond Erasmus MC.
- Develop leadership skills and, in line with your career stage, build your own research team.
Work environment
The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Erasmus MC conducts leading research aimed at making rehabilitation care sustainable and future-proof. By closely integrating research, education, and patient care, we work to improve the functioning and health of people receiving rehabilitation care. Effective, accessible, and affordable care is central to everything we do.
Our current research strategy focuses on three closely connected research lines:
- Data-driven and personalized rehabilitation.
- Innovative rehabilitation technology.
- Lifestyle and physical fitness.
Within the department, researchers from diverse scientific and professional backgrounds work closely together. Our research environment provides access to clinically relevant research questions, real-world practice data, and expertise in data analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, e-health, wearables, telemonitoring, rehabilitation technology, and implementation science.
In addition, we collaborate closely with partners such as Rijndam Rehabilitation, Delft University of Technology, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Xpert Clinics, and Capri Cardiac Rehabilitation. We also participate in national and international research consortia and programs. This creates an inspiring environment where scientific excellence, technological development, and practical implementation come together. You will have substantial freedom and responsibility to build your own research program, research line, and scientific network.
Qualifications and skills
You are an ambitious and independent researcher who combines scientific excellence with vision, initiative, and the ability to connect people and disciplines. You thrive in a multidisciplinary environment and aspire to lead innovative research within rehabilitation care. In addition, you have:
- A completed PhD in a relevant field.
- A strong scientific profile in technological and digital innovation within rehabilitation care.
- A clear scientific vision and the ability to develop an independent research line.
- Experience with, or demonstrable potential for, acquiring competitive research funding.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, and a good command of Dutch or the willingness and ability to learn sufficient Dutch to collaborate effectively within clinical and organizational settings.
Before you apply please check our conditions for employment.
