Job description

The Laboratory of Experimental Transplantation and Intestinal Surgery (LETIS) accomodates translational-oriented research on liver tissue injury, infection and regeneration during organ transplantation. Research is performed in close collaboration with surgeons and clinicians and as a research technician you will be involved in projects concerning machine preservation of liver grafts, liver stem cell characterization and tissue engineering.

As a Research Technician you will assist in the technical activities in our laboratory focussing on initiating stem cell cultures from liver biopsies, characterization using histological and molecular biological techniques, and analysis of tissue-engineered grafts. In addition, you will actively participate in our research projects on primary liver cancer and will be involved in xenotransplantations in laboratory animals (mice), perform biochemical, histological, and molecular biological analsyis.

Work environment

The Erasmus MC is the largest University Medical Center in the Netherlands and the prime national institute for organ transplantation medicine. One of the research lines of the Department of Surgery is dedicated to liver transplantation. The research projects are translational, and aim to contribute to improving the impaired ling-term outcome of liver transplantion. The team has a good (inter)national reputation and works in close interaction with transplangagion surgeons and hepatoligists in our clinic. The laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment for immunological, cell biological, and molecular research.

Qualifications and skills

We are looking for a highly motivated research-technician who is accurate, enterprising, and persevering. The candidate should have a article 12 WOD (Wet op de Dierproeven) competence. Furthermore, we are looking for a team player with good communicative skills. Expertise in organoid culturing, molecular biology and bio-imaging is desired.

Terms of employment

The gross monthly salary amounts a maximum of € 3.184,- (scale 7), depending on your level of education and relevant experience and based on a full-time working week of 36 hours. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement for University Medical Centers (CAO UMC).
