Job description

The department of Surgery, laboratory of Experimental Transplantation and Intestinal Surgery (LETIS) accomodates translational-oriented research on liver tissue injury, infection and regeneration during organ transplantation. Our research is performed in close collaboration with surgeons and clinicians and as a research technician you will be involved in projects concerning liver stem cell and organoid characterization and tissue engineering. You will assist in the technical activities in our laboratory focussing on initiating organoid cultures from liver biopsies, characterization using histological and molecular biological techniques, and analysis of tissue-engineered grafts. In addition, you will actively participate in our research projects on primary liver cancer and will be involved in biochemical, histological, and molecular biological analsyis.

Work environment

The Erasmus MC is the largest academic hospital in the Netherlands and the prime national institute for organ transplantation medicine. One of the research lines of the department of Surgery is dedicated to liver transplantation. The research projects are translational, and aim to contribute to improving the impaired long-term outcome of liver transplantion. The team has a good (inter)national reputation and works in close interaction with transplantation surgeons and hepatoligists in our clinic. Our laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment for immunological, cell biological, and molecular research.

Qualifications and skills

  • You are a highly motivated research technician who is accurate, enterprising, and persevering.
  • You should be a dedicated team player with good communicative skills and be willing to learn.
  • Expertise in organoid culturing, molecular biology and bio-imaging is desired.

Terms of employment

We offer a temporary position for 1 year. After this year you will receive a contract for a structural position provided that you sufficiently scored you reviews/assesments. The gross monthly salary amounts a maximum of € 3.280,- (scale 7) depending on the level of your education and relevant experience and based on a full-time working week. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement for University Medical Centers (CAO UMC).
