Job description

The group of Dr. Christopher Schliehe in the Department of Immunology is inviting applicants for a technician / lab manager position. Dr. Schliehe´s team has a focus on antigen presentation and immune regulation in the context of immunotherapies. It combines a large spectrum of experimental approaches (including classical immunological techniques, in vivo models, genetic screens, mass spectrometry, and chemical immunology) to elucidate the molecular mechanisms and regulatory processes involved in antigen presentation on MHC class I molecules as well as innate and adaptive immune activation.

The candidate will be embedded in the various experimental activities of the research group – by supporting the projects of PhD students and postdocs – but also with the option to work on independent project-related tasks. The experimental approaches will be diverse and range from cell culture experiments with immune cells to in vivo mouse models. Furthermore methods in molecular biology and biochemistry will be used, and readouts such as flow cytometry, real-time PCR and ELISA will be performed.

In addition to experimental work, the candidate will perform tasks of a lab manager, by ordering reagents and materials for the group (operating the Erasmus MC digital ordering system), being the responsible person for specific laboratories, and supporting the lab members in maintaining an optimal research environment.

Work environment

A healthy population and excellence in healthcare through research and education. This is what Erasmus MC stands for. Conducting groundbreaking work, pushing boundaries and leading the way. The Department of Immunology performs cutting edge basic and translational research, participates in patient care by performing laboratory diagnostics (Laboratory for Medical Immunology) and supporting Clinical Immunology, and performs a wide range of educational activities. Major research focuses in the department span molecular to clinical immunology and includes the development and function of innate and adaptive immunity, autoimmunity, immune deficiencies, immunity to infection, neuroimmunology, and lymphoid malignancies. The department has state-of-the-art facilities and equipment that support basic and translational research. The department is involved in multiple International Consortia and networks, which facilitate innovation and rapid implementation of new immunological concepts and technologies.

Qualifications and skills

  • Successful candidates have a strong background and hands-on experience in experimental immunology and related techniques, including cell culture work, molecular biology, flow cytometry, and biochemical assays.
  • Next to their strong experimental skills, candidates show excellent documentation (lab journal), scientific integrity, and will be able to collaborate closely with other group members and colleagues in the Department of Immunology.
  • Overall, we are looking for a highly motivated and skilled colleague with team spirit, the desire to contribute to the scientific progress of our team, and the ambition to master new tasks.
