Paediatric cardiologist heart failure and heart transplantation

Job description

Due to retirement of 1 of the paediatric cardiologists, the department of paediatric cardiology is looking for a paediatric cardiologist with special interest in heart failure and heart transplantation (HTx). Besides the regular tasks of a paediatric cardiologist, you are an active member of the heart failure / HTx team and participate in the (outpatient) clinical care of patients with heart failure and HTx. General duties include (outpatient) clinical care for patients with congenital and acquired heart defects. You participate in services for the paediatric cardiology department and for heart failure/HTx. You will share co-responsibility for achieving the department's intended objectives in the areas of education, training, research and top clinical patient care.

Work environment

Erasmus MC Sophia Kinderziekenhuis provides third-line top care across the entire range of paediatric cardiology and paediatric (cardio) surgical care. The department of paediatric cardiology consists of an enthusiastic team of 11 staff members and 1 fellow. Together with the paediatric cardiology department in Nijmegen (with an enthusiastic team of 6 staff members), it forms 1 team at 2 locations (Academic Centre for Congenital Heart Defects - ACAHA) with interventions taking place in Rotterdam. Together, we are responsible for third-line excellent care for children with congenital and acquired heart defects in the South-West of the Netherlands and in the Nijmegen's area. Supraregionally, we are responsible for children with end-stage heart failure and heart defects in children with multiple congenital defects. There is a large ECMO program and an assist device program for children with end-stage heart failure. There is intensive collaboration with general paediatrics at the Paediatric Thorax Centre, and with the paediatric intensive care unit. Care is provided in close cooperation with the department of prenatal medicine, neonatology, cardiac surgery and with the congenital / rhythm / transplantation teams of the adult cardiology department (Thorax Center). There is a transition program to adult cardiology.

The heart failure / Htx team currently consists of 2 paediatric cardiologists and 1 intensivist/pediatric cardiologist. Due to retirement of 1 of the paediatric cardiologists, we are looking for replacement.

Qualifications and skills

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated paediatric cardiologist with special interest in the treatment of children with heart failure and HTx. You enjoy working in a team and have good communication and teaching skills. You are willing to provide services for the heart failure / HTx program with 2 other paediatric cardiologists, in addition to regular paediatric cardiology services. Both paediatric cardiologists who have just completed, or are about to complete, their training as paediatric cardiologists, and experienced paediatric cardiologists who have already developed another area of interest are invited to apply.

Applicants must be fluent in Dutch or willing to learn Dutch within a short period of time (language certificate C1, CNaVT) in order to obtain full accreditation to work in the Netherlands.

Terms of employment

A challenging position within the largest University Medical Centre (UMC) in the Netherlands with high ambitions in care, education and research.

• You will receive a contract with the prospect of permanent employment.
• A gross monthly salary of up to € 13.001,- (scale UMS, CAO NFU) for a full working week of hours, depending on experience.
• A 4% Collective Labour Agreement payraise starting November 2023.
• A full-time contract (1,0 Fte), but part-time (0,8 Fte) is negotiable. Together, we will discuss your employability in the department. A good work-life balance is important to us.
• Excellent secondary conditions, such as a 13th month salary paid in November and a personal travel expense budget.
• Pension insurance with ABP. We cover around 2/3 of the monthly contribution.
• We ensure a soft landing at Erasmus MC. If necessary, we can provide assistance with practical matters, such as housing, etc.

All terms of employment are in accordance with the University Medical Centres collective labour agreement.
