Job description

Studies initiated by the Departments of Medical Oncology and Surgery, such as the PREOPANC, PUMP, ORCHESTRA and SANO studies, are defining the treatment landscape of these poor prognosis cancers. The Postdoc will use the blood samples of these trials for translational studies into prognostic, predictive, and treatment-monitoring markers. Furthermore, the Postdoc will prepare and write liquid biopsy projects to acquire funding for analysis of existing biomarker cohorts and prospective biomarker-driven trials.

Work environment

The post-doc will work closely affiliated to the genomics lab of Prof. John Martens which has an outstanding track record in translational research including liquid biopsies in breast, prostate, and colorectal cancer. From the clinical side, daily supervision will be covered by Dr. Bas Groot Koerkamp and Dr. Bianca Mostert. The team you will be working with includes an assistant professor, several senior scientists, 2 bio-informaticians, 7 PhD students and 8 technicians that work closely with various clinical PIs from the Departments Medical Oncology and Surgery on several genomics and liquid biopsy-focussed cancer research projects.

Qualifications and skills

  • Experience in translational genomic research in cancer.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Experience with esophagogastric and/or pancreatobiliary cancer is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with programming is considered of added value.

Terms of employment

  • The gross monthly salary amounts a maximum of 5.088,- (scale 10), depending on your level of education and relevant experience, based on a full-time working week of 36 hours.
  • A 4% Collective Labour Agreement payraise starting November 2023.
  • You will receive a contract for 3 years.
  • Working from home is a option.
  • Excellent fringe benefits, such as a 13th month that is already paid out in November and an individual travel expense package.
  • Pension insurance with ABP, we take care of approximately 2/3 of the monthly contribution.
  • Special benefits, such as an incompany physiotherapist and bicycle repairer. There is also a gym where you can work on your fitness after work.
