Job description

The Chien lab is looking for a self-motivated PhD with a background in omics technology and analysis. The Chien lab develops technologies combining advanced imaging & analysis as well as single cell sequencing and proteomic profiling to address biological questions, particularly in cancer biology. 
 
The goal of the project is to develop multiplexed single cell and spatial omics technologies that enable profiling of multiple cell (sub)types or phenotypes of interest simultaneouly in tumor samples (cell lines, primary cultures and/or tissue sections). The technologies will be used to decipher mechanisms of interaction between (selective) cancer cells and their tumor microenvironment. The successful candidate will interact or collaborate with the multidisciplinary team members in the lab and will also be part of Oncode Institute which Dr. Chien is affiliated with.

Qualifications and skills

  • The successful candidate must have hands-on lab experience and a MSc in a relevant discipline (Biomedical Sciences, Omics Technology, Bio-engineering, Cancer Biology etc).
  • A strong command of scientific English in speech and writing is essential.
  • Proficiency in any of the following programming languages is a plus: R, Python, command line language. 
  • Hands-on experience with next-generation (single cell) sequencing is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of (single cell) sequencing analysis concepts is a plus.

Terms of employment

  • You will receive a temporary position for 4 years. The gross monthly salary is € 3.536,- (scale OIO), based on a full-time working week of 36 hours.
  • Excellent fringe benefits, such as a 13th month that is already paid out in November and a individual travel expense package.
  • Pension insurance with ABP. We take care of approximately 2/3 of the monthly contribution.
  • Special benefits, such as a incompany physiotherapist and bicycle repairer. And there is also a gym where you can work on your fitness after work.
